MIT develops a way to make AI obey strict constraints
On September 14, MIT presented HardFlow, a method for enforcing strict constraints on generative AI outputs.
It gives the model more freedom while generating an answer, then enforces constraints on the final result. It works with pretrained models without retraining.
In robotics experiments, it found better paths while avoiding obstacles. These results apply to the tested constraints; they do not establish safety in every real-world setting.

Robots could adapt when a factory layout changes
If field trials succeed, staff could spend less time reprogramming routes whenever shelves or machines move. They could specify which aisles to avoid and where a delivery must go, leaving the AI to plan the route.
That could make robots practical for factories producing small batches of different products. A small shop might be able to order the parts it needs from a nearby factory more easily.
