Croatian institute demonstrates a drone collecting seawater
On September 14, Croatia’s Ruđer Bošković Institute reported on demonstrations held in Zadar and Kukljica on September 12.
The institute demonstrated seawater sampling by drone. Other demonstrations included underwater imaging, seabed mapping and autonomous vehicles.
Humanoid robots also demonstrated walking and dancing. This was a technology demonstration, rather than a launch of fully autonomous marine research.

Small ports could monitor the sea more often
As robots take on more sampling and imaging tasks, surveys could require fewer specially arranged boat trips. Small ports and fish farms might check water conditions more frequently.
Local schools could also use the observations in lessons. Students might study changes in nearby waters and discuss their findings with fishers, making research part of understanding their own town.
